VLOG: Interacting with Third Culture Kids

Today is the second day of May with the Blog Every Day in May challenge.  Feel free to join in and if you catch this anytime through out the month feel free to just jump right in.  I will be posting my normal posts, so you get a special treat of two different posts for each day this month. Read about Day 1.

Day 2, Thursday: Educate us on something you know alot about or are good at. Take any approach you’d like (serious and educational or funny and sarcastic)

I decided to do a VideoLog (VLOG) on how to interact with Third Culture Kids (TCKs).
I hope you find this informative and if you would like to know more about TCKs click the top link.
I wrote out what I wanted to say for 80% of this and the rest was just me talking. You will be able to tell when I run out of my ‘script’ because I will start saying ‘um’ frequently. I apologize and I hope to get better at my future VLOGS.  Unfortunately my editing software did not want to corporate today.  Let me know if you liked this VLOG and if you would like me to do more of them on the blog.

Tammy…I teared up reading your comment. Miss you babette. I hope it helps your kids too especially with how they are feeling in NJ, being far away from home in Hawaii. Give your bella familia a big hug for me! x

My husband and I listened to your vlog last night and could relate to so much of it. Educating about TCKs and the life of being an expat is very important to me. Like you said, we’re not weird, we’re not bragging, we’re just different. We’ve lived in Europe for 14 years, in 5 countries, birthed my kids in a Czech hospital and struggled through learning some of these languages. Even when I read that I can see how people would think I’m bragging. Am I proud for all we’ve done? Sure, but not in a “rub it in your face” proud! My perspective and world view are just different, but I’m not weird! It’s inspired me to write more about this journey of being an expat and my children being TCKs. I actually don’t like the term “expat” as I feel it doesn’t truly explain who we are. We need a better term like the term TCKs, because we live in our own third culture world! Thanks for sharing this! I’d love to do something to connect others who have TCKs and find a niche of people who understand. If you have any ideas or are interested in joining up in some kind of endeavor, I’d love to hear from you about it.
