I have seen the show; and out of all the reality shows it has to be one of my favorites. I live in the south, was born here - and yet I still don't consider myself a 'southerner' because I group up in central Florida (farthest south you can go and still be in the north, hehe)so I don't think I could ever live like they do, but there is something to be said for thier way of living. One, you can see the ingenuity of a 'redneck'; which is something a lot of people don't pick up on when they hear that southern drawl and see the dirty hands - but imagine if you will that something needs to be done; a redneck will look around to see what is on hand to make something to achieve what they need. No need to depend on others to get what you need, when you can do it all yourself. What you get is hunting, fishing, and pieced together cars that probably wouldn't pass any EPA regulations but get you from point A to point B.

But I digress - the show plops you in that world a bit. I have only watched it a couple of times, but every time I do, I enjoy seeing the world in which they live. Yes, they are true to themselves - and for the most part they don't take themselves too seriously, which is refreshing :-)

Melanie
My Imperfect...

When we went to South Carolina from Utah, we had culture shock. And then my husband had to go to Missouri, and they would shoot wild boar in the back yard and roast it over a pit. Weird!

i grew up in michigan and illinois and then moved during high school to oklahoma. i was so shocked by the 'country' (i lived in a tiny country town) way of living. cowboy hats and boots to school, carrying the large lasso ropes to football games and practicing behind the bleachers, gun racks on the pick up trucks. it was all so shocking to me to even move to the other side of the country!
