Aw I know - it would have been fun times for sure. Well hello - everyone needs a trip back to paradise, right?! Though I'm sure it'd be much more fun to visit another tropical paradise like Tahiti or something!

I wish I knew you when we were in Hawaii. I think we would get along just great! I love that all the adults tend to have the same eating habits or rules about pickiness! That is so helpful. Last year I was on a vacay with my husbands family without my husband and I had a hard enough time keeping with my rules with my kids with everyone butting in. Kids def need structure and boundaries. At least thats my view on it. Is that pic not great? my friend posted it on facebook and I was like...yes, so its not just me! hehe.

Our house does not stand for picky eaters as well. And this, in fact, is something my entire family (the adults anyway) do not stand for - which is nice to know when cousins are sleeping over each other's homes. Sometimes when they refuse and dessert bribery doesn't work. We'll keep their plates for them, and when they are ready to eat it will be waiting for them (even if that means tomorrow's breakfast). Maybe a little extreme, but sometimes they get it, and dinner actually wasn't so bad and us adults are actually pretty good cooks!! HAHA. The picture at the end is classic and I had to send it to my Chris because I should be the woman in that pic! LOL

Hi Bonnie, thank you for these lessons. My husband and I are planning on having a baby soon, and I love reading these tips. I especially love #3. I travel a lot and I meet a lot of people who have many food restrictions, not because they can't eat it but because they won't eat it. This may range from the norm of not liking their vegetables to not willing to try a special dish of a certain country because it contains something 'icky'. I am so lucky that I was raised the way I was: forced to eat what my parents ate until I learned to love it. I wholeheartedly believe that the food of a country is their culture, and not partaking means you have missed out on something wonderful. Thank you for this refreshing stance. I refuse to serve my kids chicken tenders and fries!<br />http://liveitinerantly.com

I completely agree with your post! I may not have kids yet but I feel like I've been a mother to at least 125 kids (thankfully did not give birth to them all!) through my 8 years as a Pre-K teacher! I learned so much from every child that I had in my class every year. Each child was unique in their own way. Not one was the the same as another. I enjoyed watching how the boys and girls played differently and looked at things a new way. I also loved learning about ways to basically 'parent' them when they made mistakes. How to talk instead of getting angry and figure out ways to make the situation better so they learn instead of mimicking the bad behavior again. I hope to take what I learned from these kids and become a good parent one day. I felt that when I was around these kids, I was teaching myself how to be a parent and keep all these situations in mind for the future. And I was nothing like my own parents. I always thought you'd end up parenting the same way as your parents but now I learned that it is not always the case. It's good to be able to feel confident in the choices you make as a parent. You really sound like a great mom and any advice to any mom will always be appreciated no matter how you raise your kids!
