I read the post about how you kicked the prescription a couple of month ago and loved it. And this post is a great follow up. We have become to dependent on medication, or maybe society is making up become dependent. Either way, there are other ways to overcome personal issues, better ways. Medication should be the last salution, not the first.

Modern medicine/pills are absolutely amazing and CAN help people, but I don’t believe that it should be the first and only thing that we reach for at the sign of illness.

I have seen too many doctors treat symptoms, instead of problems, and I do agree with you.

However, I also have to disagree. Not everything has an underlying problem and does need a fix. I suffer from manic depressive illness (bipolar disorder) and for me to even be at a normal, I have to have medications. I have to find a balance, because without them, my life is a series of highs and lows and no in betweens. You have to be careful with medicine in general, but especially those for mental diseases. I’ve been on medicine where I was a zombie, a shell of myself, and I’ve been on medicine where I could do nothing but sleep. I stopped taking it, thinking I could control it, but I can’t. What I have has no underlying problem – it simply is something I have to live with for the rest of my life.
