Travel: Your Most Memorable Night’s Sleep

I was asked about where my most memorable night’s sleep has been on my travels.  There have been some incredible places that I have stayed around the world but nothing more magical to me than my time in Siem Reap, Cambodia.  My mum and I stayed at the Angkor Howard Hotel in 2006 for that year’s Asian Mission Conference.  While I had been to the neighboring country of Thailand before this was my very first time in Cambodia.  From our first day to our last we were greeted and met with such hospitality and many smiles from the hotel staff.  From our time in the hotel and out in the city I have never met a culture of people who have been so nice, friendly, and smile as much as the people of Cambodia.

The Angkor Howard hotel was a great location for our conference with spacious rooms for the lectures and guest speakers, an outside area for dining and entertaining, and an amazing pool where we witnessed a baptism of one of our convention’s attendees.  While I awoke every morning well rested and excited about the day’s activities it was the food I most enjoyed at the Angkor Howard hotel.  They had a wide selection of food boasting local fresh fruits and vegetables and I was in heaven eating the delicious Khmer cuisine.  It was a great place to spend my first time in Cambodia and I know it will not be my last.  AnkorHowardHotel_Cambodia002 AnkorHowardHotel_Cambodia001 AnkorHowardHotel_Cambodia003 AnkorHowardHotel_Cambodia013 AnkorHowardHotel_Cambodia006 AnkorHowardHotel_Cambodia007 AnkorHowardHotel_Cambodia005 AnkorHowardHotel_Cambodia004 AnkorHowardHotel_Cambodia011 AnkorHowardHotel_Cambodia012 AnkorHowardHotel_Cambodia009AnkorHowardHotel_Cambodia010

Wonderful photos! I love hearing about hotel stays… I think a good hotel/hostel/b&b/whathaveyou can have such a huge impact on an entire stay.

    Cheers,

I really loved my time in Cambodia and was also there in 2006… I think around October. Just a wonderfully fascinating country with the friendliest people. I’ll never forget the little kids walking up with their bracelets and postcards and repeating “one dolla, one dolla, one dolla…” over and over again :)

    • http://www.bonnieroseblog.co.uk/ Bonnie Rose

Oh how awesome we were both there in similar time frame. The people really are the friendliest I have ever met in my travels. Love that you mentioned the kids, they were my favourite. I still have a painting I bought from one of them…its my favourite thing from that trip.

my family is from cambodia so i’m glad to read you enjoyed your time there! =D

in the photo of the folk dancers holding baskets, they’re dancing the fishing dance. it’s the dance i’m currently teaching my students; that’s cool you got to watch the dance in cambodia. =)
