Oh my goodness, that's some story about your time in an Italian jail. I would have been so shaken up too! It's so violating when someone steals or attempts to take your phone, especially when it's in a place you think of as home. i was looking at the map on my phone once in Paris, in the neighborhood I live in, when some guy ran past and tried to grab it out of my hands. I had both hands on my phone and instinctively held on, but if not for that I could have very easily had it stolen in that moment. So violating and sad to realize that I had let myself become comfortable in my own neighborhood (in central Paris!) and had to remember to put my guard up.

I always fear a bottle of liquor or something of the like breaking in transit... and a family friend of ours who works for an airline has told me enough stories like this to frighten me. Perhaps storing the bottle in a plastic bag (tied tightly) would help.
