Changes.

As you can see there have been some changes
on A Compass Rose.
I am in the process of figuring out
how to make the switch from Blogger to WordPress
and playing with the design on Blogger until it gets resolved.
I know what I like and what I want it to look like
and the limitations of Blogger has continued to challenge the process.
———–
I am also looking at whether I will continue to blog every day.
It was a really fun challenge and even more so
I love that I found consistency through blogging.
In the end with all these changes
I hope to further clarify what ACR blog is
and what I write as the author.
Thank you for your patience!

Q: Do you have any links or tips for making the switch?
I currently own my domain through GoDaddy and
want to make the move from Blogger to WordPress.

* Update: I am in the process of waiting 24-48 hours for a different issue with my hosting to take place so that I can move from Blogger to WordPress. Until then my ‘Disqus’ comments is down. You can still comment with blogger and I will reply that way. Thank you for your patience! x

I pondered on changing to WordPress, but I’m not tech-savvy enough to go it alone! I don’t blog every single day, but 1-3 times a week and even that can be a struggle to fit in so I don’t blame you for reconsidering how often you blog.

Louisa, Side note I keep writing out Lulu when I am commenting or tweeting you on Twitter because of your user name. Do you ever go as Lulu with friends? :) I almost would like to just post 1-3 times a week. I do take enough photos (scary) that I could post every day but it would be nice to not have that stress. Then the other side of me is like…just hold out for a year! We will see. 😉

I love the new design! Even though I still have no idea what I am doing on my wordpress site, it is fun to learn how to do the little things. Tutorials have saved my life so many times, even when I managed to crash my site.

Thank you Janelle! I’m going to switch to WP hopefully today so we will see how it goes. I love how this design shows a sneak preview of the current posts with this slider at the top. Its a little different than most blogs and since I post every day I feel helps posts not get lost. Tutorials (and youtube) are Heaven sent! x

I moved from blogger to wordpress through Go Daddy and it was super duper easy! Get the wordpress.org app thing in your go daddy hosting, set up your account, and log into your WP dash board. On the side bar under Tools you can Import a blog. Click Blogger and follow the steps. You can email me if you have any other questions and I can help as much as Iknow how. girlmeetscam @ gmail

I know I emailed you first but wanted to say, oh thank you for giving me the simple steps on how to do this having done it yourself. Also want to say thank you. I love that we were able to connect in Hawaii because anything I’m doing now creatively I feel is because of our photography & kid playdates.

I will babette! I hope it all goes okay. I have a blog post ready to put up, but think I’ll try to do this first. x

I never switched from blogger to wordpress because I started out years ago with wordpress. I do have a little tip for wordpress design though; I’m in the process of changing layouts myself and because I don’t want to switch back and forward between themes while I work (I’d rather go live once the coding is to my liking instead) I downloaded InstantWordPress. It let’s you run a wordpress on your computer so you can do all the changes you need to without anyone seeing it and you can just upload your theme when it’s done and go live!

I bet it’s scary to switch blog systems, for the past few days I’ve been working on switching hosts and it was finalised a few minutes ago. I was so nervous about it but it went fine. So good luck with your transition.

So happy to hear that your transition between hosts went perfectly! That is so good to hear good news! So much that it is going to motivate me to just attempt this change this morning. Hopefully without a hitch. x

I just love your new design!!! It’s so simple and just really pretty. :) Great job despite having to use blogger!

P.s. Did you just change your name from ‘A Compass Rose’ to ‘The Compass Rose?’

    • http://www.blogger.com/profile/05022023043718407104 Bonnie Rose

Thank you Amanda. After trying out a whole bunch this was the most compatiable to what I want. A little frustrated with little sleep as I have a WP design very similiar. So think I’ll try to make the move this morning. Cross your fingers for me! x

    • http://www.blogger.com/profile/05022023043718407104 Bonnie Rose

Oh good catch Amanda! 😉 Totally did not see that with running on fumes…so glad you said something. A case of using an older banner and not checking it said ‘a’ and not ‘the’. Really appreciate your observant eye. Thank you for stopping by Amanda! x

I LOVE this layout! It looks like there is so much you can do with it customization wise I too am deciding between the switch to wordpress. I played around with it for a few days, but I couldn’t figure a few things so I gave up. I really want to be able to code my own wordpress site the way I did with blogger so I’m going to need to take a few lessons and read up on some stuff.

    • http://www.blogger.com/profile/05022023043718407104 Bonnie Rose

Thank you! It is the closest I could find to what I want. Trying to go to WP this morning…knock on wood, I dont mess it al up! I say start learning that coding stuff now. You could then use it as a source of income for doing it for other people Kolbi. X

The thought of switching from Blogger to WordPress makes me ill. It seems like so much work, and I’m not really sure what the benefits are – although you are the second blogger I’ve seen do it recently. Besides more freedom in design, what’s the point of switching?

I think this layout is lush! I’ve never wanted to change to wordpress really… but I do want discus comments and have no idea how to install that!!

It’s looking gorgeous Bonnie! I’m sure you’ll love your new home and won’t look back! Would definitely like to hear more about your change – I might reconsider moving again.

    • http://www.bonnieroseblog.co.uk/ Bonnie Rose

I like the move. I need to commit more time to making more minor changes so that things are going smoothly. My friend noticed I had to let Bloglovin know about the change because it disrupted my newsfeed since the move.

      • http://www.emminlondon.com/ Mandy Southgate

Yes, I saw that it changed your URLs. That definitely makes me reluctant to make the change.

        • http://www.bonnieroseblog.co.uk/ Bonnie Rose

Luckily bloglovin was speedy and was able to move over all my followers. :)

  • Holly Nelson

My blog has been the same forever! I keep thinking about making changes, but it feels like such a big step!

    • http://www.bonnieroseblog.co.uk/ Bonnie Rose

You can always just make small changes. With big changes there are so many little things that need correcting. Which is my task at hand as of present. x
