I’d always love to be a co-host candidate. I love Melanie’s point about the drive to explore- it doesn’t need to be far away. Sometimes your own neighbourhood hosts secrets and delights to explore! x

    • http://www.bonnieroseblog.co.uk/ Bonnie Rose

Amanda sent you an email. I agree with Melanie too! As a photographer it is why I feel like I have cut off my right arm when I leave the house without my camera. We are always finding new things around Bath. Its exciting to travel near and far! x

    • http://www.melaniefontaine.com/ Melanie Fontaine

You definitely don’t need to fly half-way across the globe in order to find adventure! In fact, I’m sure many of my most memorable travel experiences haven’t been farther away than a day trip from where I live! :) I think I only started to appreciate this more when I became an expat and moved to Norway, but I’m planning to continue to explore my home when I’m back in Germany! :)

  • Annie Montgomery

Word, Brittany. In a weird way, it makes it harder too though, because you’re growing away from people back home — when I talk about going Italy (!) and Spain (!) and Germany (!), I can feel their eyes roll and I sound braggy. I hate that part. I just want everyone to have this thirst for travel and knowing and learning more.. rantover 😉

    • http://www.bonnieroseblog.co.uk/ Bonnie Rose

Annie, I can relate on this too. I’ve always just moved around so my stories all come from different places in the world. I find the people I can talk with easiest are those you mentioned, the ones that have the thirst for travel. I can become best friends with someone in five minutes when you realise you both love travel or have been to the same places.

      • Annie Montgomery

haha same here! It’s really nice to know there’s camaraderie amongst expats around the world..makes it feel smaller! 😉

      • http://www.melaniefontaine.com/ Melanie Fontaine

Definitely! Travel is simply such a big part of my life that talking to other people with a similar drive is always such a nice thing! :)

      • http://www.mishfish13.com/ Michelle

Yes to all of this! I notice that whenever I’m with a group of people, I get along best with those that have the same type of travel addiction that we do… because then we can all talk nonstop about our adventures without anyone getting annoyed, haha :)

    • http://therococoroamer.blogspot.com/ Brittany Ruth

Thanks Annie! I worry about sounding braggy sometimes too, because even if you aren’t bragging you are still showing pics of you having a kickass time. But the people who actually care about me are happy for me and actually want to make it a point to join me in my adventures. I’ve actually never had someone tell me I sound braggy, maybe not to my face anyways lol

      • http://www.melaniefontaine.com/ Melanie Fontaine

I often feel this way, too! When I tell people about my travel experiences, I’m always a bit worried that I will come across as braggy or arrogant! Now, I don’t think that people actually think that of me, but still… :)

    • Kelly Rodriguez

Annie, I understand where you’re coming from, thinking you’re sounding like a braggart. However, sharing youir experiences may inspire that person toying with the idea. Perhaps they won’t or can’t do an international trip, but I think there’s something to be learned when we travel, regardlesss of the locale. For me, teaching in an urban area, gives me the opportunity to offer my students hope that there is a life for them beyond the poverty or disfunction that may surround them now.

  • http://www.chicadeedee.com/ Dannielle @ Chic-a-DeeDee

I agree with most of them, but especially Michelle in that traveling can make you learn more about yourself, because you def are out of your comfort zone a lot but it helps you to adapt to other situations in life more easily as well.

    • http://www.bonnieroseblog.co.uk/ Bonnie Rose

Oh yes, loved what Michelle said! Especially as a seasoned traveler it can be really eye opening to realise what you learn about yourself or your comfort zone in places you have never been before. I love it because when you leave that place it helps define you even more. x

    • http://www.melaniefontaine.com/ Melanie Fontaine

Michelle’s point is really great! I have definitely learned to go outside my comfort zone through traveling, and not just when it comes to travel, but life in general. It may be scary at times, but definitely worth it!

    • http://www.mishfish13.com/ Michelle

Ahh, thanks Dannielle :) I think this past year of travel for me has definitely allowed me to learn so much more about myself than I would’ve back at home. I’ll always remember exactly where I’ve been because of what I learned while there!

And I LOVE this because I meet so many people who have done the same—not everyone back home understands :p that’s why I have you guys!

  • Holly Nelson

I think Brittany Ruth is awesome – she is a true traveller, been everywhere, seen everything, plus she is so nice too!!!

    • http://therococoroamer.blogspot.com/ Brittany Ruth

Thanks so much Holly! I still have so many places to go and so much to learn. Maybe I need to get out of my Europe shell and try South America or Asia.

      • http://www.melaniefontaine.com/ Melanie Fontaine

There really is so much to discover! But that just means that we need to spend the rest of our lives doing so… doesn’t sound too bad, does it? 😉

        • http://www.bonnieroseblog.co.uk/ Bonnie Rose

A world and a lifetime of travel…oh yes! A good one indeed!

      • http://www.bonnieroseblog.co.uk/ Bonnie Rose

Oh yes, I recommend Cambodia! I have yet to go to South America too…need to do that as well.

    • http://www.bonnieroseblog.co.uk/ Bonnie Rose

Oh yes I love Brittany and seeing the world through her eyes on her blog. A Treasure to the blogging world.

  • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Thanks for letting me join the fun! I loved reading all these lovely ladies answers, I had so much more to say about this question but maybe I will save that for a blog post:) Great answers from you all, I love reading along with all your blogs:)

    • http://www.bonnieroseblog.co.uk/ Bonnie Rose

Of course Kaelene! I love getting to know more about your story too! Oh do and let me know when you post about it too. x

      • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I will def will! I thought the answer had to be a one sentence thing for some reason, silly me, so I will have to share all my other thoughts in a post soon!

    • http://www.mishfish13.com/ Michelle

Haha, I agree :) there are so many new bloggers now to creep on!

  • http://www.melaniefontaine.com/ Melanie Fontaine

I love what all of the others have to say and I wholeheartedly agree with all of their points! I especially love Tina’s point: The world is simply such an incredibly beautiful place and I honestly believe that nature is the world’s greatest artist!

    • http://www.bonnieroseblog.co.uk/ Bonnie Rose

Oh yes eloquently put…and I whole heartedly agree with Tina too. Its why we love our country walks in England. What a beautiful earth we live on! x

  • http://www.quintessentially-english.blogspot.com/ Erin @Quintessentially English

Yay! I love Travel Tuesdays! I’ve missed the blogging world. I agree with so many of the others, in particular I love traveling to get to know different cultures and taste different foods. For me experiencing different cultures gastronomy is major part of my love of travel!

    • http://www.bonnieroseblog.co.uk/ Bonnie Rose

Oh yes…eating and traveling, two of my favourite things and such a great way to get to know a new place and culture is by eating the food the people there enjoy.

    • Kelly Rodriguez

Erin, you are so right. Food culture is so important to the travel experience. You learn so much. I find that in places outside the US, the food is actually prepped and cooked, not cut from pre-packaged bags or standardized through chains. Even if what you ate wasn’t a favorite, chances are that someone truly cooked it for you. I love eating in the villages…you can’t beat the menu of the day pricing, and the home cooking feeling that comes with it.
