Three Places

theplacesIt is the last Tuesday of another month which means it is time for our Themed Travel Tuesday post.  Do not worry, you can still link up with any travel posts if you do not have one that fits the theme.  It is also our last week with our amazing Travel Tuesday cohosts, Tina and Melanie.  They have gone above and beyond over the last three months and this link up would not be what it is today without them.  The next Travel Tuesday co-hosts will be announced further along in this post.  But first lets talk about themes! This month’s prompt stated:

“Share three places… the place you have been that you have loved the most, the place you cannot wait to visit and something about the place you live in.”

Street Art in Brighton, England

streetart_brighton-england

One of my most favourite things about being in Brighton, England was being able to finally say I had seen a Banksy street art piece in person. There are a few in Brighton and the city boasts many interesting pieces that will continue to change through out the year.  Here are some of my favourites from Brighton as captured by my iPhone with the Hipstamatic app.    Continue reading

Glimpses of Hawaii

Hawaii is never far from my mind but has been in my thoughts since the weekend.  I decided that for Travel Tuesday today I wanted to share some of the last photographs I took before leaving the island of Oahu.  I wanted to capture some of the details of things I often took for granted of seeing every day during our years living the island life.  While I did not capture everything I wish I had on photograph, I am so glad I took the ones that I did.  How often do we live or travel somewhere and not take photographs of something simply because we see it all the time?  It can be so much fun to just go outside and force yourself to see through brand new eyes and notice all the little things that make a place so beautiful and special.

Expat Life for a Third Culture Kid

tck_expat

“A Third Culture Kid (TCK) is a person who has spent a significant part of his or her developmental years outside the parents’ culture. The TCK frequently builds relationships to all of the cultures, while not having full ownership in any.  Although elements from each culture may be assimilated into the TCK’s life experience, the sense of belonging is in relationship to others of similar background.”

My So-called Ex-pat Life

In just two months we will be celebrating our three year anniversary as an expat family in England.  It seems not so long ago that we were in the US of A, wishing we could be living overseas.  Continue reading

Travel Throwback #8: Garmisch

travelthrowback_garmish

For my throwback this week I share another polorid photo from my childhood.  This one was taken by my dad on a camping trip he took my sister and I on one summer.  We were at a campsite in Germisch, Germany.  I had just learned how to cook a dinner of veggies and meat in foil over the BBQ at scouts and was ‘showing my dad’ how to do it. 😉  I think another great aspect of this photograph is the fashion my sister and I are wearing from the early 90’s.

I still love taking pictures with Polaroid film.
For me, it offers the most beautiful way of capturing reality
and transferring it onto a flat piece of paper.

Q: Have you been to Garmisch, Germany?

Travel Health: Bimuno Travelaid

This is a photograph taken with my dear friend Rungnapa on my second trip to Thailand in 2006.  We first met when my husband and I were teaching English for the summer in Bangkok.  While he could not be here for this trip, I wanted to show him the amazing Thai food he was missing back in California.  Purposely we had the photo taken after we had just finished an amazing meal at Mama’s, a place we had frequented back in 2004. It is hard to have a bad meal when traveling in Thailand with the different flavourable tastes and wide variety of vegetables and fruit from the region in south east Asia. Continue reading
