In Memory of Michael Bonner

Having lost my dad too soon in 2008, the concept of death seems never to be too far from my mind.  I wonder what would happened to my family if something were to happen to me. Or what we would do if one of my family members dies.  I never used to think like this.  Life is really so short and precious. It is why I cherish now every day with my family. Why I hope to bestow my appreciation and love on those in my life.  Why when someone does leave us too soon, it keeps bringing that focus back to what is really important in life.  Still when someone else I knew died unexpectedly I still felt like I didn’t know how to process it.  Why do good, caring, and amazing people have to leave us so soon? I do not know if that question will ever be answered for me.  Continue reading

Expat Life for a Third Culture Kid

tck_expat

“A Third Culture Kid (TCK) is a person who has spent a significant part of his or her developmental years outside the parents’ culture. The TCK frequently builds relationships to all of the cultures, while not having full ownership in any.  Although elements from each culture may be assimilated into the TCK’s life experience, the sense of belonging is in relationship to others of similar background.”

My So-called Ex-pat Life

In just two months we will be celebrating our three year anniversary as an expat family in England.  It seems not so long ago that we were in the US of A, wishing we could be living overseas.  Continue reading

Win London Retro frames from Glasses Direct

LondonRetro-6

Have you ever bought prescription glasses online or do you usually go to the optician to select your new frames?  Up till now I have always tried on my glasses in person.  I am that lovely near-sighted girl who continues to put on and take off different frames in comparison inches away from the mirror.  Which do I like better?  One or Two? This brand or that brand over there? Do I stick with the tried and true Buddy Holiday inspired frames or opt for colour? Continue reading

Travel Throwback #8: Garmisch

travelthrowback_garmish

For my throwback this week I share another polorid photo from my childhood.  This one was taken by my dad on a camping trip he took my sister and I on one summer.  We were at a campsite in Germisch, Germany.  I had just learned how to cook a dinner of veggies and meat in foil over the BBQ at scouts and was ‘showing my dad’ how to do it. 😉  I think another great aspect of this photograph is the fashion my sister and I are wearing from the early 90’s.

I still love taking pictures with Polaroid film.
For me, it offers the most beautiful way of capturing reality
and transferring it onto a flat piece of paper.

Q: Have you been to Garmisch, Germany?

This is a photograph taken with my dear friend Rungnapa on my second trip to Thailand in 2006.  We first met when my husband and I were teaching English for the summer in Bangkok.  While he could not be here for this trip, I wanted to show him the amazing Thai food he was missing back in California.  Purposely we had the photo taken after we had just finished an amazing meal at Mama’s, a place we had frequented back in 2004. It is hard to have a bad meal when traveling in Thailand with the different flavourable tastes and wide variety of vegetables and fruit from the region in south east Asia. Continue reading
