When we went back to Naples, a place where I lived twice in my childhood for a total of six years, I did more than relive memories. Thanks to a friend I made during our time in Hawaii, who was then stationed in my hometown, I got to see a new side of Napoli. Places I had not yet seen in a place that still retains the title of the ‘longest place I have ever lived’. This museum is on top of a hill above the funicolare and overlooks the bay of Naples and the Castello Nuovo. My favouite aspects were all the details, colours and history that encompassed every part of the museum. I think the skulls outside were probably my favourite aspect as we viewed it in the bright sunny afternoon. We took so many photographs and saw so much it became worth every second we spent. I just found it amazing that even in places you call ‘home’, you can still play tourist and be mesmerised by such beauty. I will let the photographs now do the talking. Continue reading
It is the last Tuesday of another month which means it is time for our Themed Travel Tuesday post. Do not worry, you can still link up with any travel posts if you do not have one that fits the theme. It is also our last week with our amazing Travel Tuesday cohosts, Tina and Melanie. One of my most favourite things about being in Brighton, England was being able to finally say I had seen a Banksy street art piece in person. There are a few in Brighton and the city boasts many interesting pieces that will continue to change through out the year. There are so many terms and labels floating around out there define different categories of people who are living abroad. As an expat, a former military kid and wife, and a third culture kid, I understand the need to be defined in today’s world. So when citizenM hotels contacted me about a project on defining ‘what it means to be a ‘mobile citizen’ in today’s society, I was eager to weigh in on the subject. More and more people are leaving home, branching out of their social networks, and becoming what could clearly be defined as mobile citizens. Hawaii is never far from my mind but has been in my thoughts since the weekend. I decided that for Travel Tuesday today I wanted to share some of the last photographs I took before leaving the island of Oahu. I wanted to capture some of the details of things I often took for granted of seeing every day during our years living the island life. While I did not capture everything I wish I had on photograph, I am so glad I took the ones that I did. How often do we live or travel somewhere and not take photographs of something simply because we see it all the time? It can be so much fun to just go outside and force yourself to see through brand new eyes and notice all the little things that make a place so beautiful and special.
