The Bridge Tea Rooms in Bradford on Avon

The Bridge Tea Rooms | Bradford on Avon

Welcome to the first #TravelTuesday of 2014 and I am so glad to have you on board!  Today I wanted to share with you another one of my favourite places in the nearby town of Bradford on Avon.  The Bridge Tea Rooms and Restaurant is a must stop place on your next trip to the Bath area.  From the quintessential setting, to the lovely service and dining experience you will find you’ll leave wanting to come back again soon.  Nestled near the river you can walk over after feeding the swans and be greeted inside by the waitstaff in traditional attire.  We have chosen to sit upstairs every time we have visited the Bridge Tea Rooms and on a cold day it is lovely sitting by the fire.  They have a wide selection of teas to choose from though I have to admit I love the Jane Austen blend the best!  Are you coming with children?  They are family friendly and have some great selections to keep the young ladies and masters content.  My sons had their tea of sandwiches and fruit brought on on a three tiered plate stand and enjoyed milkshakes with their food. Make sure to leave room for dessert or perhaps come for tea and cake.  For me it is reason enough to make the trip to Bradford on Avon. It is a perfect place to go before or after a stroll through town and the picturesque countryside.

Happy 9th Blogiversary!

Nine years ago today on January 4th I wrote my first blog post. I was days away from my due date of my first born and was excited to find a new way to keep in touch with family and friends all over the globe. So much has happened since that first blog post. I finally gave birth to my first child, I have moved about fifteen times, became a military family again, gave birth to my second son, became an expat family, and celebrated ten years of marriage with my husband. I look forward to seeing what this new year will bring!

A new year and I bring you another year of self portraits.
I take one self portrait a week and share on Saturdays.

Maternity Shoot on location in Wales

Blogtember prompt for today is just photos and so I present to you a photo heavy post from a maternity shoot I did with my friend Miriam on location in Wales.  These were shot in three different locations during our time in Snowdonia. Miriam is not just a beautiful person with a beautiful heart, spirit, and soul but a fellow artist and photographer.  I am so blessed to have been able to document the last part of her pregnancy with her fourth child.  I thought I would share just a few, but I had so many favourites.

Photography: The Spitting Caves of Hawaii

For today’s throwback photography post we head to the exquisite Spitting Caves found on Oahu, Hawaii. My model for this shoot was Tasha Woodfall, my make up artist Melissa Hurley, with hair and photography by myself. While the three of us had not all worked together before I had been Tasha’s hair & make up artist on shoots with two different photographers and Melissa and I worked together frequently during our time on the island. We tailgated at the parking lot of a near by Starbucks to do hair and makeup before heading to the Spitting Caves. I had seen this place in photographs before and as one of the sets used on LOST, but this was my first time seeing it for myself. While it is nice to location scout before hand, walking out here was like taking a child to a candy store. My eyes were wide open as my head looked around and my mind thinking of all the shots I wanted to get while we were there. While we did have to work around a few tourists that showed up during our shooting, we pretty much had the location for ourselves. I just adore the way the layers of the rock shone beneath the sun, the colour of the ocean, and the way the water did ‘spit up’ against the caves. It was on my list of places to shoot before I moved and I could not have asked for a better team that morning. I hope you enjoy!

Q: Have you ever been to the Spitting Caves? Have you ever been Cliff Diving?
(I ask because that is one thing I have never done before)

Self Portrait: ‘Inside the Frame’

I am back with the Self Portrait Saturday challenge!  This is where any time during the week you take a photo of yourself with any camera that you own and share it with us on Saturday.  My self portrait this week is entitled ‘Inside the Frame’.  No underlining conceptual themes or trick photography involved in this shot.  I was getting ready to go to my expat friend’s house for tea and had a few minutes to play around with my camera and the window light while waiting on my sons to get their shoes on.  So here I am in my H&M lacy peach dress, my hair back in a chignon, and wearing my brown frames.  You normally do not see me wearing my glasses in photographs.  I used to be a girl that loved living life through her variety of colour contacts.  However I need a new contacts and have a deep love for my oversized prescription sunglasses.
I do not mind being photographed in my glasses and to be fair love the look of me in my frames.  However I will be honest with you.  I am that girl that quickly grabs the frames off her face and hides them behind her back in a photo op.  Eyes are the windows to the soul and sometimes I just want to see that without the distraction of glasses.  It is interesting how much different someone can look with our without glasses on and so in lieu of keeping my blog grounded in authenticity here is my self portrait with me wearing my glasses inside the frame.

Photography: LookBook Hawaii Pt. II

Today I am a guest poster on: Found Love Now What with a post I have entitled: Beating the Blues to a Happier You. If you have stumbled on my blog through Belinda’s site, thank you and I hope you will enjoy my corner of the Blogosphere.  I blog about being an expat, growing up as a Third Culture Kid, and even share my photography from travels to portraits I’ve taken around the world.  Today is my Throwback photography post for Thursday and I hope you will enjoy! Cheers!

For today’s Throwback photography post I take you to the LookBook inspired shoot with model Kristen in Hawaii. Last week we looked at LookBook Hawaii Pt. I and this is the follow up LookBook Hawaii Pt. II at Lanikai beach, on Oahu. Kristen was one of several models that partook in my ‘Model of the Month‘ project in 2010, being the cover girl for April.

Q: What is your favourite thing to wear to the beach this summer?

Self Portrait: ‘North Wind’

There is a line taken from the film adaptation of Chocolat
that as a Third Culture Kid it truly speaks to my nomadic nature.

“But still the clever north wind was not satisfied.
It spoke…of towns yet to be visited, friends in need
yet to be discovered, battles yet to be fought”
I am a free spirit that feels blown to new places.
When you have yet to ever live in one place for longer than a three years,
you wonder if you can ever truly settle down.
Since I have only been in my current location since Christmas,
we will just have to wait and see.
Where do you think I be in two and a half years from now?
