Paris in Motion: Roller Derby model in Paris

Bonnie Rose Photography © 2012 All Rights Reserved | www.bonnie-rose.co.uk
Oh  beautiful Paris.           The city of love.
Oh have I fallen for the city’s fashion hub,
amazing food, historical art,
and beautiful sights.
Love.

It is said that it is the people you meet on your journey
that can make the most impacting memory of your travels.

For me and our trip to Paris that was true with meeting the beautiful Orel Kichigai.

Orel is in the roller derby with the Paris RollerGirls, models and is active with photography.

We met up while I was last in Paris to see some of the sights.
I am used to doing a lot of walking on my travels and have rented a bicycle when in Lucca, Italia.
I have yet to skate.  Watching Orel maneuver seamlessly through the streets of Paris,
it was hard to not be a little jealous I could not glide as well.
I know for next time to pack my skates. 😉

Last week I shared the first half of my favourite self portraits from 2012 and today I will share the second half of that list.  Next week I go start my self portrait project for 2013.  So without further adieu I present to you the photographs to speak for themselves.

‘Heirloom’ Self Portrait by Bonnie Bonnie Rose
This one is a special one for me because it represents more than myself. The tattoo on my arm is the F111E, the plane my dad flew during the Gulf War in the 90’s, my memorial tattoo I got after he died. The fur stole I got when I was in Uni, after my dad’s father passed away. I went to the funeral and it was something I was given as we cleared out his father’s place. It had belonged to my dad’s mother, who died before I was born. I have my father’s eyes, and in this image I really see his mother. Though all three people are gone, the memories, reminders, and heirlooms remain.

Snowing in Bath

I knew I had acclimated back to life in England when I started using the weather app frequently on my phone and actually talking about the weather in conversations.   This morning I saw we had 90% chance of snow fall in the afternoon and started to get excited.  Sure enough after lunch  my kids started talking excitedly about the heavy snowflakes falling outside.  Unfortunately it only lasted a little while and we were left with no reminder. After our first snow fall of 2013 last month we are left longing for more.  We had so much fun going into town and seeing all the architecture covered in the white snow. Of course back at home there were plenty of snowball fights, snowmen and snow forts that were built.   In England we get plenty of rain but the snow is always so magical to me.
Here for the first time on the blog are photographs from the snow we had fun enjoying while it lasted.

Self Portraits from 2012 Pt. I

I have not shared my self portraits on this blog before and would like to commence doing so this year.  I will start with sharing the first thirteen of my favourite self portraits from 2012.

Want to see Part II?

‘In Your Eyes’ Self Portrait

Wanted to show how a person would look in the eyes of someone who all they can see is the other person. I created distortion and blurs in camera using a wine glass positioned in front of the lens. I took this self portrait with aid of a tripod.

Flying

Self-Portrait by Bonnie Rose
for 2012 Self-Portrait Competition for the theme: Flying. I used trick photography by putting together two images, exactly the same though one contained a chair. Wanted to express the height that music can take us when we give into the music and/or lyrics and put our worries and worldy stresses aside.

Bridal Self Portrait

Taken at my home studio.

Gotta Move

For the Self Portrait challenge 2012, theme: ‘You Gotta Move’. I really want to do more and push myself more, but sometimes its a little scary to just let go and be free creatively. I tried to express that in this image. The force, depicted by my hair being blown up and the feathers of my skirt being blown about. The not wanting to let go and to hold onto old perceptions that I cannot go further or push myself more. The birds being that ideal of being free and following off in the direction of breeze.

Aint no Sunshine

www.bonnie-rose.co.uk Image for Self Portrait 2012 challenge for ‘Aint No Sunshine’. I took two images the same day. The first is from inside a castle I visited. When I got home I took a shot of me in the dark with just the light of three candles. Two below and one to the side (that is still in the image). I put the two images together for this composite.

Black or White

For Self Portrait Challenge 2012 for the theme Black or White. Chose to play with shadows to see the toying of the choice of the darkness (black) or the light (white) and the shadows (Grey) in between.

Have you Seen the Rain

For Self Portrait Challenge for theme have you seen the rain shot with a 50mm. Bonnie Rose Photography @ 2012

‘Out of Time’. I took this spontaneously while walking through Pompeii. I wanted to show the movement of time passing too quickly with me in many places at once amongst the left over remains of a fallen city. Time is always passing and we often talk about how quickly it just slips out of our reach. We can wish that time would slow down or we cold go back in time, but we are always moving and racing forward till the end of our life.

Holding back to memories.

Halloween 2013

October is flying by fast and November will be here after Halloween has come and gone. This is the first Halloween that I will not be with my boys and so I made sure we got costumes and photos before I had to leave back home to England.  Halloween is not really my favourite holiday but I have carried a rule from my mum, ‘Nothing scary’ in regards to the costume selection.  We originally had decided on Doctor Who, but since my husband and I cannot celebrate with the boys, my sons chose the Avengers as their back up plan.  Ronan chose to be Thor and Maddox chose to be Captain America.  I took them out to Allerton Park last week and we had a Halloween photo shoot.  Here are my favourites.  I wish my boys a fun (and safe!) Halloween on Wednesday.  Look forward to seeing my two favourite heroes very soon! xx

Swim Lessons with Ronan & Maddox

My boys have been doing swim lessons on Saturday morning for the past few weeks and this Saturday has marked the middle of the term.  Maddox is in level II and his big brother Ronan is in level III.  They both have been having a lot of fun in the water and improving on their technique and skills.  Pictured to the left is a photo of Maddox working on his front crawl after kicking off from the side of the pool.  It is hard to think that a year ago he would not want to be in water deeper than his height. Soon he will be swimming as well as his brother.  Ronan has really improved on his front and back stroke in the last few weeks.  We also took him to a pool with a diving board and got to seem him go off of one for the very first time.  Seeing him conquer his fear and accomplish that goal was amazing as a parent to watch.  I know my boys both miss Hawaii quite a lot, but their love of water and being in the water has not vanished.
Swim lessons are fun!

Birthday Cake

Birthdays are always a great celebration and last week we got to celebrate one here at the house.  The boys’ grandfather had his 60 something birthday.  The boys love to be in the kitchen so we talked about making something special.  So on the big day the boys and I spent our science period making a very chocolate cake with coconut oil.  It was very yummy and super rich.  But a nice special treat for someone celebrating a big birthday.  The boys were excited to pick out cards and get balloons and presents.  It was a fun evening.
The chocolate cake.

Watching the cake come out with candles on it.
The boys decorated pumpkins for a grocery store competition.  They made 3D affects for spookiness!
Ronan was all smiles in home education this week.
