Self Portraits from 2012 Pt. I

I have not shared my self portraits on this blog before and would like to commence doing so this year.  I will start with sharing the first thirteen of my favourite self portraits from 2012.

‘In Your Eyes’ Self Portrait

Wanted to show how a person would look in the eyes of someone who all they can see is the other person. I created distortion and blurs in camera using a wine glass positioned in front of the lens. I took this self portrait with aid of a tripod.

Flying

Self-Portrait by Bonnie Rose
for 2012 Self-Portrait Competition for the theme: Flying. I used trick photography by putting together two images, exactly the same though one contained a chair. Wanted to express the height that music can take us when we give into the music and/or lyrics and put our worries and worldy stresses aside.

Taken at my home studio.

Gotta Move

For the Self Portrait challenge 2012, theme: ‘You Gotta Move’. I really want to do more and push myself more, but sometimes its a little scary to just let go and be free creatively. I tried to express that in this image. The force, depicted by my hair being blown up and the feathers of my skirt being blown about. The not wanting to let go and to hold onto old perceptions that I cannot go further or push myself more. The birds being that ideal of being free and following off in the direction of breeze.

Aint no Sunshine

www.bonnie-rose.co.uk Image for Self Portrait 2012 challenge for ‘Aint No Sunshine’. I took two images the same day. The first is from inside a castle I visited. When I got home I took a shot of me in the dark with just the light of three candles. Two below and one to the side (that is still in the image). I put the two images together for this composite.

Black or White

For Self Portrait Challenge 2012 for the theme Black or White. Chose to play with shadows to see the toying of the choice of the darkness (black) or the light (white) and the shadows (Grey) in between.

Have you Seen the Rain

For Self Portrait Challenge for theme have you seen the rain shot with a 50mm. Bonnie Rose Photography @ 2012

‘Out of Time’. I took this spontaneously while walking through Pompeii. I wanted to show the movement of time passing too quickly with me in many places at once amongst the left over remains of a fallen city. Time is always passing and we often talk about how quickly it just slips out of our reach. We can wish that time would slow down or we cold go back in time, but we are always moving and racing forward till the end of our life.

Holding back to memories.

BACKGROUND:
Bonnie Rose was born in Oxford, England and grew up in Europe moving every two to three years, due to being a daughter of an USAF officer. At the age of seventeen, she moved with her family to the United States, where Bonnie went on to University in 2001. Bonnie attended Harding University where she majored in Theatre with a minor in Ministry, and went on to study Cosmetology for a license in the beauty industry. Bonnie is married with two young kids.

HAIRSTYLIST & BEAUTY THERAPIST:
While majoring in Theatre at Harding University, Bonnie found her passion for Acting and Directing also included a love for working with hair and make up. After completing an Advanced Theatre makeup course as part of her degree, Bonnie decided to go to school to pursue a Cosmetology license for the disciplines under hair, skin, and nails. Bonnie began her study at Arthurs Beauty College near her University, and finished up her required hours at Regency Beauty Institute in Illinois. Being married to man in the military, Bonnie’s mobile life continued to keep her uprooting her life, bringing her next to the beautiful island of Oahu in Hawaii. She finished extra hours needed to transfer over to work in Hawaii, and obtained her Hawaiian cosmetology license. She worked with Christine Gardner of Flaunt as a Hairstylist and trained Airbrush makeup artist for clients, weddings, and models. In May of 2009 she began work at the Black Cat Hair Studio as a Colour specialist and one of two Hair extension techs at the studio. During her time in Hawaii, she continued to also work as a freelance hair and makeup artist to clients at their homes and with models and photographers on photo shoots. In the Spring of 2011, Bonnie Rose moved to Brighton, England, to be joined by her family that fall. She worked through that first year in England as a Hair Designer at Peewees Hair Salon in Burgess Hill.

FREELANCE PHOTOGRAPHER:
Bonnie Rose is a self taught photographer with a decade of experience in Photoshop, who has been taking photographs since her first Polaroid camera at the tender age of ten. In the beginning of 2008, Bonnie focused her creative energy and spare time to working with other industry professionals on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Bonnie soaked up a lot of hands on experience and knowledge from everyone she collaborated with on the shoots. She kept herself open to the limitless possibilities by working as a hairstylist, make up artist, wardrobe stylist, and assisting the photographers and models. A year later in 2009, Bonnie Rose decided to build her own portfolio in photography and started executing photo shoots that stemmed off her background of theatre and her training as a hair and makeup artist. Bonnie made a name for herself across the Internet and through various networking sites as well as having her work seen in local and national publications that Spring. Bonnie Rose focused as a Portrait photographer while her flair as a fashion photographer to each shoot, working primarily on location.

She works now in Bath, England focusing on her Bespoke Lifestyle Portraits and Wedding Photography in the Bath and Bristol areas of Sommerset, England.

Fun Foods for Kids!

With it being the final week of Summer I have favoured the last of warm weather to wear our shorts and summer tanks.  We are still unsure about when we are coming home to England so I have been finding things to keep our days fun.  What better to keep their interest than fun food!  Today I made them ‘Octopus Speghetti’ for lunch with Turkey hotdogs and whole wheat spegetti. It was pretty simple to make. First I cut each hotdog into four sections.  I wanted the octopus to have eight arms so I punctured the noodles into the center until the ‘arms’ were even on each side.  Once the water had boiled I put the Octopuses into the pot and as the noodles started to cook they sunk down far enough to cook evenly.  Once they were cooked and drained I covered it up with some leftover sauce and voilà!  It was definitely a huge hit with my boys.

This week we started it off with a cookout with friends of the family at the park.  Another time for hot dogs, this time grilled over a fire pit.  My boys do not eat a lot of hotdogs, so they were much more excited about the dessert: S’mores!  We had fun roasting the marshmallows and trying not to catch them on fire.  Better yet pairing them with chocolate and putting them in between two graham crackers.  Its been a great week and I look forward to Fall starting tomorrow!

Back to School

The boys went back to school this week and started our new journey: The Adventures of Home Education.  We are not sure when we are going back to England, so being able to home school will help keep us going through out this transition period.  The boys and I have already had a lot of fun and I look forward to the rest of the school year.  We started the week with taking our ‘Back to School’ photographs. Enjoy!

Jersey Shore Vacation

Seaside Heights, New Jersey

It has been over a year since I have seen my mum and sister, Zoë.  So being able to take the boys out to New Jersey for the week was really a blessing.  Not only did my boys get to see their Nonna and Zia, but their Great Uncle Tom, my father’s brother.  For me just being around my Uncle was very comforting.  I forget how many similarities and mannerisms that my father and my uncle share.  With not having the option to be around my dad anymore, every minute with my Uncle is golden.  Although he had to work every day, we go to spend the evenings together.  I really enjoyed seeing him and my boys together.

My Uncle, Ronan, and Maddox with my Sister.

We basically spent the week on the beach, living in a condo that was just a short walk away.  It was basically impossible to get the boys out of the water, Ronan especially.  They have really missed living at the beach and being able to live in the water since we moved from Hawaii.  We built sandcastles, collected shells, and enjoyed the warm sunshine.  Ronan and Maddox really loved the boardwalk with all the games, rides, and food choices.  The special treat was getting to spend a day
at Six Flags and it was one of the highlights for the boys.

Having fun at the beach at the Jersey Shore

At the end of the week we got to have a reunion with my best friend Tammy from Hawaii. It has been so long since we have seen each other and being able to catch up with her and her family was heaven sent.  The week went by really fast but we enjoyed every second.

Lake Trip in Missouri

Driving into St. Louis

This week we drove down to Missouri to visit with my husband’s brother and his family.  We spent a little time in their hometown of Springfield, Mo and then four days by the lake in Branson, Mo.  Hands down my favourite moments this have been on the lake.  I love the water and being able to kayak, be on the pontoon,  or just lay out on the water and tan.  The best part was being able to be with my boys and enjoy some well deserved quality time.  I just wish my husband was here to enjoy it with us.
