Self Portraits from 2012 Pt. I

I have not shared my self portraits on this blog before and would like to commence doing so this year.  I will start with sharing the first thirteen of my favourite self portraits from 2012.

‘In Your Eyes’ Self Portrait

Wanted to show how a person would look in the eyes of someone who all they can see is the other person. I created distortion and blurs in camera using a wine glass positioned in front of the lens. I took this self portrait with aid of a tripod.

Flying

Self-Portrait by Bonnie Rose
for 2012 Self-Portrait Competition for the theme: Flying. I used trick photography by putting together two images, exactly the same though one contained a chair. Wanted to express the height that music can take us when we give into the music and/or lyrics and put our worries and worldy stresses aside.

Bridal Self Portrait

Taken at my home studio.

Gotta Move

For the Self Portrait challenge 2012, theme: ‘You Gotta Move’. I really want to do more and push myself more, but sometimes its a little scary to just let go and be free creatively. I tried to express that in this image. The force, depicted by my hair being blown up and the feathers of my skirt being blown about. The not wanting to let go and to hold onto old perceptions that I cannot go further or push myself more. The birds being that ideal of being free and following off in the direction of breeze.

Aint no Sunshine

www.bonnie-rose.co.uk Image for Self Portrait 2012 challenge for ‘Aint No Sunshine’. I took two images the same day. The first is from inside a castle I visited. When I got home I took a shot of me in the dark with just the light of three candles. Two below and one to the side (that is still in the image). I put the two images together for this composite.

Black or White

For Self Portrait Challenge 2012 for the theme Black or White. Chose to play with shadows to see the toying of the choice of the darkness (black) or the light (white) and the shadows (Grey) in between.

Have you Seen the Rain

For Self Portrait Challenge for theme have you seen the rain shot with a 50mm. Bonnie Rose Photography @ 2012

‘Out of Time’. I took this spontaneously while walking through Pompeii. I wanted to show the movement of time passing too quickly with me in many places at once amongst the left over remains of a fallen city. Time is always passing and we often talk about how quickly it just slips out of our reach. We can wish that time would slow down or we cold go back in time, but we are always moving and racing forward till the end of our life.

Holding back to memories.

25 Weeks and Counting Down

Looking for date night outfits, I was inspired by the dress I wore at a wedding five years ago.
Keeping with the blush and pinks with the fascinator for the English in me.
On the second of August, 2013 my husband and I will have been married for ten years. This weekend will be eleven years since we had our first date.  A third of my lifetime has been married  to Ryan.  So much can happen in ten years. We have been through more than I would wish on anyone to have to experience.  So much thrown at us that it almost tore us apart irrevocably. Sadly in our military community we witnessed so many divorcing and calling it quits.  Yet having come through it all it has made us closer and stronger than ever before.  So in twenty five weeks time my husband and I will be reaffirming our love as we renew our vows.  Every week I will be blogging a ‘Wedding Wednesday’ post as we count down to the big day.
My husband and I in Paris last summer for our 9th Anniversary in the city of Love.
Though not taken on the day, we had been married 5 years at this wedding we attended.
This was my ‘Sex and the City’ Carrie inspired ensemble.
The fascinator was a DIY that I made myself out of a broach and feathers.
‘He wore black and I wore white’ – Nancy Sinatra ‘Bang Bang’

I have set a new years resolution for myself and though it be February, I do not see it too late to start one.  I aim to take so many more photographs where Ryan and I are both in the frame together.  Looking back through old photographs to post for this blog I realized that we have so many of just one of us, while the other person took the photograph. My goal is to better document our love for us to cherish and look back on when we are truly ‘old and gray’.

The lack of couple photographs aside there have been many anniversaries and huge chunks of time where we have not been together due to the military and other circumstances out of our control.  I do not like missing important dates or being apart for long time, let alone an evening.  I really do cherish every moment we have together for life is uncertain and far too short.

One thing that I have definitely learned in the last ten years is you cannot let the words and actions of others come into your marriage and break you apart.  You have to be team.  If you let other people, be they acquaintances or family, speak ill of your partner or do things that could cause friction and stress you have to block them out.  What I love so much about Ryan in this moment in time where we are today is that he blocks out the toxicity of others and holds me close with so much love.

‘Focus on Imaging’ convention

Just a few days ago I was reading up on a photography convention where a photographer I have followed for years was going to be speaking.  Being that I had the day off of work and that it was only in Birmingham (though at the time I did not exactly know how far away that was from Brighton) I decided to make a plan to go.  With my husband taking care of the kids after school, my train tickets booked, and my camera bag in tow; I got on three different trains to the convention.  I have to say I was a little overwhelmed when I first got inside.  It was quite packed.  I got to listen to Lara Jade (www.larajade.com), a fashion photographer based out of London and NY, twice and loved it.  I stayed until closing and finally made some purchases right before heading out.  Despite the lenses I was drooling over, I picked up a few different photography books.  On the whole the day was very motivation and passion filled.  It was just the rejuvenation I needed in my photography career.

Feeling so inspired, motivated, & refreshed! Loved meeting other creatives & new people.
